FIPPA and general privacy concerns

In our last class we learned about FIPPA, an acronym that I was not familiar with until then. I was aware that Canadian institutions have strict rules about their data being stored in the US, but it was interesting to learn that this was a response to the Protection Act. Having that context in mind made me understand all the privacy concerns much better.

I also was glad to learn that schools need “informed consent” from parents (or students) when deciding to use tools that will infringe FIPPA in some way. (Because local schools often use Google, I had been giving pretty uninformed consent via a form up until now so my child could use it at their school.)

Finally, I am particularly interested in the concept of creative commons. I look forward to learning more about it and interacting with the content.
